Born in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea to Gabriel Lorenzo P. Laureano and Kim Young-ae. Emilia’s parents met when Gabriel had a medical mission in South Korea. Young-ae was the student volunteer at that time—assisting the foreign doctors when they locked eyes and had love at first sight. Gabriel decided to continue their lovestory by marrying Young-ae. Young-ae immediately became pregnant and later on gave birth.Emilia was born in a family full of love, understanding and support. Her parents never failed to give her the life she deserves. From time to time, they would visit the Philippines for her to familiarize the filipino culture. She grew up being able to speak three languages namely Korean, English and Tagalog. Not to mention, her family is very rich yet her parents stayed humble. Made her down-to-earth and very mindful of how she spends her fortune. Her father never stopped being a very dedicated doctor to the poor in Gangnam until he retired. Her mother turned to be the most loving and caring human being she has ever known.Emilia had a very serious childhood. She was an overachiever. Despite being loved so dearly by her parents, she seemed to be distant with people even from her school. Her parents got worried that she hasn’t made friends since she started school. Not until she stumbled upon a puppy who was badly hurt. Without second thoughts, she brought the puppy in her home and cared for it until it was okay. That’s when her parents saw her being so warm and welcoming to people. She started expressing and talking more. She even told her parents that she wants to be a doctor for animals.Emilia named the puppy “eros” for she believed they met because of love. The puppy grew clingy and full of energy. Until come a time, Eros became fragile and weak. The Veterinarian had told them that his kidneys and liver were failing due to old age. She cried until no tears could drop anymore. She had to let go of Eros for not being able to take care of him for the last few years. She got busy in college and barely got the time to play with him. When it was time to bury Eros, Emilia promised herself that she will meet him soon.Years went by so fast. Emilia acquired a degree in Biochemistry in Seoul National University. She graduated at the top of her class. That’s when she decided to go to the Philippines and explore more of its beauty. She wanted a new environment. She wanted to feel her filipino blood. Her parents did not oppose and gave their blessing to her. She promised she’d be back whenever she can because the puppy she saved was buried in South Korea. Little did her parents know, she’ll be opening a pet shop and take up Doctor of Veterinary Medicine 2 years after.She is now on her 5th year in Veterinary Medicine in University of the Philippines Los Baños while managing her pet shop named “FURever Home” during the times she is free of university schedules. Her pet shop is not only unique but has been receiving lots of positive feedbacks from everyone. The pet shop’s goal is, if not totally but at least minimize, eradicate stray animals and provide them a FURever home. Once contained and treated, they will be up for adoption. The pet shop does not sell these lovely animals because Emilia believes that no cost can compare to the joy an aspin and puspin can bring to a home.Eros was her turning point—to care and nurture these animals and free them from pain and suffering. If she got the chance to save a puppy in the past and make that puppy a part of her family then anyone could do it too. Her love for animals couldn’t compare to anyone’s. One more year and she’ll be a Veterinarian. She couldn’t wait to advance her skills to prolong and make the animals she take in live a life they deserve.
